I knew at the center of this Labyrinth I would find nothing but this sole picture, fulfilling Nietzsche’s prophecy: A labyrinthine man never seeks the truth, but only his Ariadne. Roland Barthes

As I write my epic post on Barthes’ Camera Lucida, I can’t help but think it will take more than one part to complete. I was hoping to get it out on Father’s Day in memory of my dad, but if he were here, he would understand the complexity of the task. I found an old video that synthesizes well with Barthes’ text: a reflection on loss through photography. Each photo has a punctum for me, but as in Barthes’ experience, the wound is personalized and dependent on my own culture and history.
